OVFM CLUB MEETING TUESDAY DECEMBER 6th 2016

comp_16

As the year hurtles ever close towards it conclusion we still have some film business to take care of here at OVFM, in the form of three annual club competitions, created in tribute to past club members.

These three very different contests give club members a chance to test their creativity under explicit criteria and are not as easy as one may think, making this one of the unique and interesting challenges thrown down every year. As always, the three prizes up for grabs are:

Kath Jones Cup

Mike Turner Plate

Vic Treen Trophy

The rules for each of these can be found HERE which we ask you to adhere to, otherwise the subject matter of your film is entirely in your hands, and you can enter a film for one, two or all three categories.

Last year’s instalment had a disappointingly meagre response from club members, with one category receiving just ONE entry, making it a sadly predictable outcome when the winner was announced at the Oscars. So, perhaps this year we can do something about that and make this a real hot competition to end the year on?

Of course, if you are bringing a film this week then PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST in the comments/reply section below, letting us know the film’s run time, format (DVD, Blu-ray) and picture ratio (4:3 or 16:9). This is a great help for us when planning the evening out and helping things run smoothly so if you could do us this courtesy it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, members are asked to submit their entries to the Annual Competition to Brenda at this meeting. the entry forms can be downloaded HERE (this is a Members’ Only page so be sure you are logged in).

Thanks for reading and good luck to all who enter a film/films.

    1. Is that a film or are you simply publishing two of your jokes….. and you know what I am talking about…! Andy

  1. Andy – I will be bringing one film cut to a piece of music. This was entered some time ago but has since been extensively re-edited. Also a 60 second film.

In case there is a paucity of entries I will also bring a 3 minute film which although not strictly a joke film has an amusing ending so you may wish to use it just to fill up time. Regards Brian Pfeiffer

    1. Yes many thanks Brian. A good idea to bring the addition. So at least three then! I – and Lee – just wish others would respond Andy

  2. The last competition evening of the year encouraged no less than 11 films (meaning once again most people couldn’t be bothered to let us know in advance that they were bringing a film) across the three categories.

The Kath Jones Cup attracted just two entries – the animated “25th Of July” from Hugh “Two Jokes” Darrington and John Bunce’s “Back Porch Revamp” (also entered into the Top 10).

Similarly the Mike Turner Plate also saw just two entries – “Tunnel Cleaner” from Jane Oliver (if you are thinking what I think you are thinking about that title then you have a very prurient mind) and “Freshen Up For A Long Day Ahead” by Brian Pfeiffer, a clip involving an outdoor shower of sorts.

Finally the Vic Treen Trophy proved more inspirational with seven films cut to music submitted. The Eptons invited us to “Spot Your Plot” (none of us did) while Colin “Colin” Jones channelled his inner Chris Coulson and delivered “Kittens To Gershwin” but unfortunately Gershwin was out, so he left them on the door step where they were eaten by a werewolf. *

Basil Doody serenaded us with his version of “Beside The Seaside” next folowed by Andy “Elementary My Dear” Watson taking us on a “Ski Funday” which he said was a pun, but I thought he was taking the piste. Andy also submitted the test disc footage he always uses to set up the preoejctor as a film since it was images cut to music. it doesn’t have a title but “Not This Again” might be considered.

Brian Pfeiffer resurfaced with “Hummingbirds Of Machu Picchu” about chickens in Aldershot and finally Jane Oliver closed the contest with , an ambiguous film entitled “Merry Christmas”.

Since this took up about twenty five minutes of the meeting, the remainder of the evening was spent with another clip from Brian Pfeiffer involving a rhino, before we screened t some of the films from this past Sunday’s North vs South competition, including the winner and one which wasn’t shown on the night due to time constraints.

And that wraps up the club’s filming activities for 2016. Be sure to join us for the Oscars in March 2017 to find out how these films fared!
