This is it folks – the final qualifying round of the annual Top Ten competition!
It has to be said that the response to this year’s competition has been disappointing with just twelve, yes TWELVE entries over the past four rounds. We know some people leave it to the last minute but we didn’t expect most of you to leave it to the last minute! To that end we hope to have a last minute surge of contributions to boost the entry total (otherwise the final will be a short one) but not too many or we’ll never be able to view and judge them all.
Members who have been drawn to provide entries for this round are:
Charlie & Nellie Caseley
Richard & Jess Pugh
Ian Menage
Freddy Beard
Simon Earwicker
Hugh Darrington
Peggy Parmenter
John Ransley
Colin Jones
Please reply to this post if you will be providing a film at this week’s session, along with the running time, picture ratio (16:9 or 4:3) and media format (DVD, Mini DV, etc). This is a tremendous help in planning out the time allotment of the meeting.
If you don’t then have a film ready please let Brenda Wheatley know so that she can try to find someone else to fill the gap in the evening. If you missed your given round please bring your film along to this session, but it will only be shown after those drawn for that round, if there is time.
The results from the previous rounds can be found HERE.
Good luck to everyone who enters a film!
Hi Lee
I have a film! 16:9 format on DVD, approx 7mins long.
We entered the final round of the Top Ten with some trepidation as the previous rounds had yielded few entrants but you guys came through and we had seven films to close this year’s qualifying rounds, which meant a rather long night of viewing and discussion!
I should preface this recap with the confession that due to a mishap with my hearing aid batteries I couldn’t hear the audio of the films too well, so if my summary of your film is glib you know why.
First up was “Capel Le Ferne” from the returning John Ransley, which was a tribute to as war hero.
Colin Jones delved into his archives and found a “Forgotten Holiday” from 1973.
Leo Staggs then took us for an animated trip around his “Living Room” before Anna Littler let us loose in “My Sister’s Garden” (that’s Anna’s sister not my sister – my sister would never let anyone else loose in her garden!)
Our beloved chairman Simon “Snapper” Earwicker brought us a tale of “Love And War” which was about marriage (surprise surprise!).
Next up Ian Menage got “Wet And Wetter” until he finally went to the toilet then we showed his film! Just kidding – it was about his experience driving around a race course in a posh car.
The final film was “Cat Fight” from Anonymous although we all have our suspicions as to who that might be (Freddie, I’m looking at you!)
So there we have it. Thanks to everyone who entered this year. However with just 19 films it will be a tight race, so it’s going to be interesting to see what the final ten films – to be screened in January 2014 – will be.
Thanks to everyone who entered the top ten competition this year. The finalist will be kept secret until 7th Jan, be sure to be there to see who wins.
I’m delighted so many members rallied to the cause and submitted their films on Tuesday, it was a packed evening as they say!
Thanks to Lee for his informative and entertaining posts and to Brenda for being the guiding hand on the tiller of the Top Ten competition racing yacht.
Joking aside ‘Cat Fight’ was in fact a Chris Coulson production, so you can’t take credit for it Freddy!
One of these days………I will ‘make’ a film! We had a great range of films in this round, wouldn’t have minded taking credit for any of them.
