KENT FILM FESTIVAL 2019

The KFF is one of the longest running interclub competitions dating back to 1974 and returns for its 2019 iteration to be held on September 29th at Powell Theatre, Canterbury Christ Church University, North Holmes Road, Canterbury CT1 1QU.

OVFM has been a regular contributor to this event although we haven’t had a winning film for a couple of years now, so maybe this year we can reverse that trend. The closing dates for entry submissions is Wednesday July 24th and you can download an entry form HERE.

KENT FILM FESTIVAL 2015

The annual Kent Film Festival will soon be upon us, taking place on Saturday 26th September 2015 at Canterbury Christ Church University, with doors opening at 10:30am.

OVFM has had a far amount of success at the KFF over the years, our last big win occurring in 2013 while we had a good showing last year, so as ever, this is a great opportunity to not only support OVFM on the day but to maybe also if you’ve entered a film, you could be contributing directly to whatever success we may achieve.

Tickets are on sale from Ian Menage (you know where to find his contact details) – £5.00 for advance bookings/ £7.50 on the door (£3 for students) – while all additional info you need, such as directions to the venue etc. can be found on the KFF website HERE.

OVFM Conquers Kent Film Festival 2013!!

Members of Orpington Video & Film Makers collected three major trophies and a commendation at the prestigious Kent Film Festival (held Saturday 28th September, in Canterbury).  The winning films were ‘Steam and Smoke’ (Best Photography) by Sam Brown, ‘Village Mosaic’ (Kent Award) by Barbara Darby,  ‘Enid Blyton – the Beckenham Years’ (Best Documentary) by Mike Shaw and Footprint Productions, and ‘Eastbourne ‘ (Commendation) by Mike & Jo Coad.

KENT FILM FESTIVAL 2013

 

The 39th annual Kent Film Festival takes place on Saturday 28th September 2013 at Christ Church University, in Canterbury, Kent.

OVFM played a major part in the festival as our very own Mike Turner was chairman of the event for many years before his sad passing last year. In 2012 we also made our mark on the results front by bagging four top award (including Best Film for Bob Vine’s “Eco”) and three commendations. can we do the same this year?

Kent Film Festival 2011 Results

As Chairman of the Kent Film Festival, I was delighted that so many OVFM members attended this event and I would like to thank you for your support especially if you also entered a film

We always try to show as many films as possible and this year we projected 70% of all entries. It could have been a few more but my co-presenter, who shall be nameless, hit the wrong item on the computer screen resulting in the large silver screen disappearing into the ceiling of the theatre. Fortunately, order was quickly restored and the audience appeared to be highly entertained by this unexpected event.

The trophy for the best film in the festival was won by Spring Park Film Makers with their film “Unfounded Rumours” about the development and demise of the Dunton Green to Westerham Railway. OVFM also had winners as follows:-

 

Best One Minute Film: Garden Tips by Colin Jones

Best Documentary: Finnish Foibles by Reg Lancaster

Best Editing: Engine Turning by Barbara Darby

Best “Other”: Dungeness by Mike Coad

Best Kent Subject: The New Romney Story by Gwen and Alan Whippy

Commended Certificate: Connoisseur by Barbara Walker.

Kent Film Festival 2011 – 24th September

Wearing my Kent Film Festival Chairman’s hat, I would like to applaud members of OVFM for their support of the Kent Film Festival as this year your 20 entries represent a staggering 40% of the total number received. All of you deserve a trophy but I have no influence over the judges unfortunately. However OVFM do have an outstanding record of winners over the years and it will be a real pleasure to welcome you at the comfortable Powell Theatre within the Christ Church University Campus, Canterbury on Saturday 24th September. The Film Festival starts at 11-00am (doors open at 10-30am) with excellent restaurant facilities and tickets available now from Freddy Beard at the special price of £5. It is a fun day and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
