Please reply to this post if you will be providing a film at this week’s session.

If you don’t then have a film ready please let Brenda Wheatley know so that she can try to find someone else to fill the gap in the evening. If your film is ready early please bring it along on a top ten night and if there is time we will show it.

If you miss your given round you can bring your film along to a later one, but it will only be shown after those drawn for that round, if there is time.

So Film Fans, I give you…THE OVFM OSCAR NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHS!
Please! Thank you, settle down, mind what you’re doing with that monopod missus, where’s me wash board, I didn’t come here to get insulted…I could have stayed at home!

An Expectant Crowd (not to be confused with a crowd of those expecting!)

Anyway On With The Show. But first I must be serious for a moment. We now live in a highly litigious society where health and safety concerns dog our every move. For some the arrival of conker season doesn’t bring joy but a fearful rush for hard hat and goggles, and fetching something down from the top of the cupboard requires a safety net and padded suit!

Security Has Arrived.
Security Has Arrived.

But here at OVFM we’re not like that, we laugh in the face of danger…ha ha. Only last week I heard of an OVFM member who didn’t flinch when he dropped his ginger hob nob he just calmly reached down, picked it up and carried on as if nothing had happened. Brave? You bet yer!

And what about the OVFM member who recently took up rollerskating? Determined to fulfil a lifelong ambition and do something adventurous he didn’t hesitate to get out there and have a go. (The doctor says he’s doing fine and the cast can come off in about six weeks).

However after vetting my article the OVFM lawyers (Fleeceham, Grabbit & Runn) have insisted that I preface it with a warning to protect those of a sensitive disposition.

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday March 13th 2012 – OVFM OSCARS!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls and Miscellaneous – dust off your glad rags as it is once again time for the annual OVFM Oscars!!

Those lowlifes in Hollywood had the audacity to pinch the idea of awarding films with prizes and statuettes some 50 plus years before OVFM came up with it but that hasn’t stopped the club from showing them how it should be done!

On Tuesday March 13th at the Barnard Rooms, St Augustine’s Petts Wood the crème de la crème of the work created by the talented members of OVFM will be rewarded in a gala evening of epic proportions that will razzle you, dazzle you and – if you play your cards right – bejazzle you!

Last year young Reg “Reg” Lancaster walked away with four prizes (but had to give them back until he was officially awarded them) for his epic drama “Finnish Foibles” followed by the debut outing by someone unknown lump of gristle called Lee Relph, whose contemplative paean to the survivors of the great authors cull of 1922 “Writers Block” bagged three awards. For the full list of winners from last year please click HERE (but not until you’ve finished reading this page!).

So who will reign supreme this year? Can Reg Lancaster score big two years in a row? Who will take home the Mike Turner Plate? Did anyone successfully put a film to music in an award wining style? Which nine films were not voted winner of the annual Top Ten competition? Do you care? If you do then join your affable (or is it flammable? I forget which) host Chris “Cats” Coulson as he guides us through the murky waters of the 2012 OVFM OSCARS!!

Be there or don’t. It’s up to you.

OVFM Club Meeting January 3rd 2012

Hello and Happy New Year to you all!

I trust you’ve all managed to remain relatively unscathed by the Yuletide celebrations but that is now in the past and here at OVFM it’s business as usual. And what better way to kick of the new year than by finishing up last year’s Top 10 competition.

It’s been a hard fought contest, the likes we have not seen since John Prescott and Eric Pickles both spotted the last roast chicken in the House of Commons canteen. The ten films we will see again during this week’s meeting scored the highest points by you, the OVFM faithful, during the qualifying rounds. We have an eclectic mix of films all vying for the esteemed pole position, which has been claimed by such club luminaries as Mike Shaw, a Barbara Darby, Hugh Darrington and (surprise surprise) Reg Lancaster (whose only remaining contest he has yet to win is Miss OVFM although I believe he is making a concerted effort this year!). The full list of winners can be found HERE.

To keep things interesting for us (or maybe an act of pure sadism) our resident competition organiser Brenda Wheatley will not be releasing the competing film titles beforehand  – although the finalists themselves have been notified to give them a chance to fix any issues raised during the feedback sessions at the first screening (although I can confirm that at least one finalist wasn’t able to amened my…er, his film so you’ll have to make do with the original version warts and all and be done with it).

Also this meeting is the last date for submitting your entry forms to the Annual Competition. More details, including a downloadable entry form, are now up HERE.

Good luck to the ten finalists and see you all on Tuesday!

OVFM Club Meeting Tuesday October 11th 2011

FINAL ROUND!!

And so the final round of this year’s competition is upon us. We’ve seen some interesting films thus far although it is fair to say that the response has been little underwhelming, with the highest number of films submitted for one session being just five (in the last round, the results for which can be found HERE).

Of course this may be because people are leaving it to the last minute before making their films which would suggest, if this is the case, that this closing round could break the record for films shown in one evening!

So, who out of the following will be marking their mark on this year’s competition with their submissions?

Ann and John Epton

Susan Ward,

Annabelle Lancaster

Chris Coulson (I bet it’s about cats…)

Bob Vine

Zoe Taylor

Mike Turner

Jim Morton-Robertson

Mike Bishop

Steve Wheeler

Christine Collings

Harold and Maisie Trill

We also have an updated list of members who have yet to participate in any of the previous which can be found HERE If your name is on it and you have a film then please bring it along and make the most of your last chance to enter the contest.

As always it would be greatly appreciated if you could reply to this post and kindly let us know is you are going to be submitting a film or not, as this is a great help for planning out the evening, especially for our resident master of the media players Simon “Snapper” Earwicker.

See you on Tuesday and good luck to all who enter a film!
